For this project I have decided to create a spinning toy which is controlled by twisting and rotating two sets of string attached to the hands. The object will have pieces placed in holes around the outer curved side kept in place by lengths of elastic. When spun, the centrifugal force will make the elastic stretch out, causing the bands to create a whistling/vibrating noise as it courses through the air. This sound will be able to be created three different ways: first by rotating the wrists, you cause the toy to follow a circular path. In this case the smaller pieces will come out at separate points in the route of the circle, thus there will be a regular fluctuation of vibration and knocking as the pieces fall back into the toy. Secondly, when the strings have become twisted around each other, you pull on the toy to cause the strings to unwind. This will mean that the toy will spin evenly, there will be an even distribution of force on the elastic pieces and a constant production of sound. The third technique will be to orbit your hands around the toy as it spins. This will cause the pieces to not be perpendicular with the object as they are vibrating, and thus they will create different tones depending on how much they are being displaced.
